SanRem routs Madridejos; Daanbantayan, Aloguinsan falter in Governor's Cup debut

CEBU, Philippines — Dave Arnold Ando, the All-Star center of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, asserted his dominance at the shaded lane with authority to power San Remigio to a 97-61 wipeout of Madridejos in North Division Bracket 4 of the 2nd Cebu Governor's Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under-21 Developmental Basketball Tournament at the Mayor Artemio Masbate Sports Complex in San Remigio, north of Cebu.

Ando proved that he is a cut above the rest, pumping in 18 of his 24 points in the second half to mastermind San Remigio's 360-degree turn after being down by six points after the first quarter, 32-38.

Bernie Felicidario sank three triples, while Alfonso Quijano and Reeve John Fajardo contributing seven as Madridejos raced to a six-point edge at halftime.

San Remigio, however, upped the tempo after the short break with Ando and Guinever Amit combining for 15 points in a crippling 37-7 run to tip the game apart. Ando scored 10 more points in San Remigio's 28-16 finishing kick to complete the 36-point blowout.

Roman Sinadjan finished with 18 points, Amit had 12 and Ken Rublica contributed 10 points for San Remigio. Quijano was the lone Madridejos player in twin digits with 21 points.

Earlier, Medellin gave debuting Daanbantayan a rude welcome via a 90-78 drubbing. Riel Veloso fired a game-high 24 points and Fritz Saladaga chipped in 19 markers for Medellin, while Robert Glenn Intrampas scored 22 for Daanbantayan.

Over at the Samboan municipal gym, John Michael France Rosal banged in 20 points and Yojildridge Luage added 16 as host Siempre Samboan overcame Santander, 80-78.

In the other South Division Bracket 3 games, Nino Indoy tallied 22 of his 33 points in the second half to help Ginatilan edge Badian 85-78, while Rojan Montemayor unloaded 20 points as Alegria debuted with an 83-68 thrashing of Oslob.

At the Alcantara municipal gym, Mike Anthony Bayaton finished with 19 points and Lee Baybayanon and Charlie Sabanal churned out 17 markers apiece as Barili spanked the debuting Aloguinsan, 104-81, while Kurt Michael Pepito, Roy Vincent Buhawe and Marjon Zamora connived for 36 points as Alcantara fended off Moalboal, 64-59. — EBV
