TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines — Perennial champion Cebu City Niños kicked off their campaign strong at the start of  the 2018 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet here.

Pardo Elementary School spikers delivered for the Cebu City with a 25-12, 25-18 victory over Siquijor in the elementary boys volleyball event at the Booy Community gymnasium.

Niños’ elementary girls tennis team also had an impressive performance with Karen Sanchez defeating a Tagbilaran netter, 8-1.

University of San Carlos’ Lyra Mae Repollo was leading, 4-0, against Miriam Darsin of Tagbilaran before the tournament committee decided to halt the game due to heavy rain at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex.

Abellana National School’s secondary baseball squad, however, was not lucky after they fell to Dumaguete City, 2-7.

Despite the loss, Coach Felix Franco remained confident that his boys will recover as the tournament progress.

“It’s only our first game. We have several other games to play. We will try to bounce back this Monday against host team Tagbilaran,” said Franco.

Meanwhile, the gymnastics events will start today in Dauis. (FREEMAN)
