Tabal claims sixth SM2SM Run title

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuana Olympian Mary Joy Tabal struggled as she suffered a cramp in the early stage of the race but still found her way as she claimed her sixth all-Filipino women’s crown in the 8th SM2SM Run yesterday morning at the SM City- Cebu grounds.

The country’s marathon queen touched down the finish line with the best time of one hour, 22 minutes and 38 seconds.

Cagayan De Oro City’s Aileen Tolentino came out second with the time of 1:29:32, while Cristabel Martes wound up third in 1:32:11.

Like Tabal, Richard Salano also retained the all-Filipino men’s title as he came out on top in 1:12:00, one second ahead of Rafael Pescos. Keenan James Caburnay settled for third place in 1:39:54.

In the 21K all-foreign, Kenyan Eric Chepsiror lorded it over with the time of 1:09:08. Trailing is Leidel Samuel with 1:26:06 clocking, while Reichmuth Nils placed third in 1:39:54.Susan Chepkwony topped the women’s class with a time of 1:36:52.

Boholano Desederio Engbino, for his part, won the 40-49 title in the 21K in 1:24:19, while Sandra Sollano ruled the distaff side with her time of 1:46:11. Alex Loloy (1:32:52) and Rosalinda Cosino (2:02:19) shone in the 50-above class.

In the 12K action, Prince Lee won the men’s class with a time of 39:24 while Christine Hallasgo dominated the women’s division with a time of 48:19. Arland Arbois and Cherry Andrin also stole part of the limelight after winning the 8K titles with a time of 27:08 and 33:03, respectively.

Arnel Florentino (13:24) and Mary Joy Loberanis (16:03) placed first in their respective divisions in the 4K action.  (FREEMAN)
