CEBU, Philippines - The Redemptorist-Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church will spearhead the ‘Run for Mary’ on August 13 starting and ending at the church’s grounds along Queen’s road in Barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.

The running event is among the highlights of Redemptorist's year-long activities in line with its 150th anniversary celebration.

“We decided to do a running event because she (Our Mother of Perpetual), just like any other mother, wants her  children to take care of our health,” said Pete Clabao, one the church’s lay ministers.

Over 1,500 runners are expected to join the race, which features the 1K, 3K, 5K and 10K categories. The organizers are confident of reaching their target as students from St. Theresa’s College and Colegio de la Inmaculada Conception promised to support the event.

Also, hundreds of members from the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Air Force are also joining.

“Aside from promoting a healthy lifestyle, this run also helps us in propagating faith and sharing to the Cebuanos the love of Our Mother of Perpetual Help,” said Redemptorist Church curate Fr. Chris Mostajo.

“This run will serve as an opening salvo for the church’s celebration and we want to make it special for the love to our Mama Mary,” added Fr. Mostajo.

Gift packs and certificates will be given away to the top finishers in each division.

Registration fee is pegged at P400 for the 10K and 5K, P350 for the 3K and P300 for the 1K inclusive of a running shirt, race bib and post-race refreshments. One may visit the Redemptorist Church office for further details. — (FREEMAN)
