CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu provincial government will give another P1 million to each of the towns and cities whose mayor attended the August 9 meeting with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

The meeting was held to announce additional information and guidelines for the upcoming Pasigarbo sa Sugbo slated on August 28, 2022.

“Kada mayor nga nia who arrived on time unya niattend niini, P1 million each,” Garcia  said during the meeting, which was livestreamed by the Capitol’s news portal, Sugbo News.

According to Sugbo News, 30 mayors attended the meeting called by the governor, nine were late and one was represented by the vice mayor.

The said amount will be in addition to the LGU's budget for their preparation in Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.

The Capitol initially gave P1 million each to the mainland LGUs in Cebu Province which committed to join the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo and P1.5 million for the island-towns in Bantayan and Camotes.

With the additional P1 million, this means those LGUs whose mayors attended the Augsut 9 meeting will receive P2-P2.5 million each from the Capitol.

The Capitol have already poured in at least P53.5 million as assistance to the LGUs for the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo.

Garcia said she udnestands that the LGUs spend more than a million in preparing for the said event, that’s why the Capitol is giving them assistance.

According to the governor, the amount they poured for the festival would not just be for fun or entertainment and promoting the Cebuano culture, but will also give livelihood to the stakeholders like the choreographers, designers, among others.

“Think of the choreographers, the costume makers, props men makers and everyone that is working now to really come up with a festival that would compete with other festival," Garcia said.

"We are providing them jobs, we are providing them opportunity to earn again after such a drought of two years. So I hope that those who think that this is just some frivolous activity think about the many Cebuanos that are now being benefited by it," she added.--/ JMD (FREEMAN)
