Cebu City holds 1st scholarship alumni summit

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  It’s finally a go to the first-ever Cebu City Scholarship Alumni Summit today at the Cebu Coliseum with around 3,000 participants expected to join.

Prior to the summit proper, a job fair took place yesterday where some of the participants in today’s summit landed a job instantly.

For those who missed the job fair yesterday, it will continue today until 12 noon.

The summit proper is set to start at 2 p.m. with acting Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros to lead the program. Hontiveros is the chairman of the city’s scholarship program.

The scholarship program’s executive director, Judy Navarrete, earlier told The Freeman that there were already over 500 former scholars who registered in the event.

However, those who missed the registration earlier may also do it at the venue today.

Navarrete said they are expecting 3,000 total participants in the summit as they aim to “rebuild history, recreate memory, relieve legacy”.

Commission on Higher Education regional director, Dr. Maura Consolacio; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority regional director, Engr. Gamaliel Vicente Jr., together with Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera are also expected to grace the event.

Mayor Michael Rama is also in the program, but, no confirmation yet on his attendance since he is on official leave.

There will also be testimonies from the city’s former scholars including Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) top performers Christine Celestian and Jericho Matutinao along with Harline Gonzaga plus a youth forum to be led by lawyer Melvin Legaspi. — GMR (FREEMAN)
