Comelec sets 4-day voter’s registration

Le Phyllis F. Antojado-Orillaneda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be implementing a four-day voter’s registration schedule starting November 3.

In a press release, the Comelec made this clarification after previously announcing that the voter registration will go from Monday to Friday beginning November 9.

“We wish to clarify our earlier statement. Since Friday is the default disinfection day, voter registration will only be until Thursdays,” Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said, in a statement.

He added the designated disinfection day in all offices of the election officer is every Friday, however, the registration may be suspended on any given day of the week subject to the scheduled disinfection day of the local government unit.

The registration will still start at 8 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.

“In critical areas that may be under localized Enhanced Community Quarantine as determined by appropriate authorities, voter registration remains suspended,” the Comelec added.

Those who wish to register must wear face masks and face shields when coming to their local Comelec offices.

The number of people allowed inside the offices will also be limited to ensure that physical distancing is observed.

Applicants are encouraged to bring their own pens also. — GAN (FREEMAN)
