CEBU, Philippines —  Despite its need of more police personnel, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 has dismissed the services of nine erring cops effective yesterday.

PRO-7 Regional Director Valeriano De Leon said that he had signed orders dismissing from service the nine policemen who violated rules within the PNP organization, in line with the organization’s internal cleansing.

“Meron akong mga pinirmahan hanggang 2:30 kaninang madaling araw, I was carefully studying all the merits of the case,” De Leon said.

“It was recommended by the board and hindi naman sila nag-contest because the prosecution of our office were established that indeed they have violated some of the policies of our organization,” he added.

These cops were facing cases of dishonesty and most of them were cops who went AWOL (absence without official leave), according to De Leon.

“Silay na-detail sa isang festivities, silay may duty pero hindi naman sila nag-rereport.  They were given a chance to explain themselves pero parang wala na din silang interest,” he said.

Even if the organization needs more policemen, especially now that Sinulog is just around the bend, De Leon said that they do not need policemen who will only violate their policies.

“But I find it improper baka sila pa ang magkalat sa Sinulog natin, kaya pinilit kong tapusin itong mga iba’t-ibang kaso para sa ganun ay hindi pa sila magamit sa security at baka sila pa ang magdulot ng kahiyaan sa aming hanay,” De Leon said.

He added that he chose to end the services of the nine cops in order to be able to select more deserving police personnel that can do the duty with responsibility.

De Leon, however, clarified that the PNP has given all their best in order to serve the privileges for every police personnel.

At present, the PRO-7 is yet to give out the names of the said cops who were dismissed.  GAN (FREEMAN)
