Cebu City to donate 47 vehicles

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government is eyeing to donate the 47 city-owned vehicles to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-7 and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-7.

This, few days after the City Council has approved the donation of 38 vehicles to 25 barangays during the regular session last Tuesday.

City Councilor David Tumulak said he was directed by outgoing Mayor Tomas Osmeña to process the donation.

“This is both advantageous on the part of the City ug ingon man sa mga government agencies,” Tumulak told The FREEMAN.

With the donation, CCPO will own the 42 vehicles, BFP will own the three ambulances and one pickup, while the BJMP will own the ambulance that it is using for so many years.

Tumulak said these vehicles were donated to these government agencies and it is high time for the city to give these vehicles to them.

“This is to avoid doubts ba nga manggawas na sad ang issues nga gi-recall, dili na. Ilaha nani kining maong sakyanan. Makaayo pud na sa siyudad kay ang oil, lubricants, fuel and other maintenance sa vehicles be shouldered by national agency na and dili na sa city so makadaginot ang atong kagamhanan sa siyudad sa Sugbo,” he said.

He added the incoming administration can use the budget supposedly for the maintenance of these vehicles to other services that would redound to the benefit of the constituents.

Tumulak said the CCPO, BFP, and BJMP have been requesting for the donation of these vehicles that is why the city is doing it now.

The donation would also decongest the volume of vehicles that is going to the motorpool for maintenance and repair.

Tumulak said these agencies have funds for the maintenance and repair of their vehicles that is why there will be no worries as to the maintenance of the vehicles.

“This is a win-win solution…ang administrasyon dili na mogasto og gasolina, oil, pag-repair kay ang national agency naman and besides the national agency naa sad sila’y kaugalingong budget for that,” he said.

Tumulak said he will submit his proposed resolution for the donation of 47 vehicles to the three government agencies, hoping that it will be included in next week’s regular session of the City Council.

Last Tuesday, the City Council approved the 25 resolutions of Councilor Sisinio Andales that authorized Mayor Tomas Osmeña to enter into and sign the Deed of Donation and Acceptance with barangay captains of 25 barangays that are mostly affiliated with the outgoing administration.

These barangays include Basak Pardo, Calamba, Guadalupe, Buhisan, Buot, Bulacao, Babag, Bonbon, Cogon Ramos, Carreta, Capitol Site, Camputhaw, Busay, Binaliw, Banilad, Apas, Agsungot, Day-as, Guba, Basak San Nicolas, Hipodromo, Lusaran, Kasambagan, Kalubihan, and Lahug.

Most of the opposition-affiliated members of the City Council expressed surprise of the move of the outgoing administration for the donation considering that the initiative has been part of the platforms of mayor-elect Edgardo Labella.

Labella had said that he intends to push through with the donation of the city-owned vehicles to the barangays so that these will not be affected by any change of administration.

Tumulak said the outgoing administration has thought of the donation years ago to free the city from paying for the maintenance, repair, and other expenses for the vehicles. — GAN (FREEMAN)
