Churchgoers told:Observe cleanliness

CEBU, Philippines — Churchgoers are urged to observe cleanliness by bringing their own eco-friendly trash bags while attending church activities for the Holy Week.

Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office head Nida Cabrera said the city government will continue to monitor and maintain the cleanliness of the surroundings while the others are having their Lenten break.

“Atong giawhag ang atong mga kauban nga mobisita og church, magdala sila og kaugalingon nga container para sa tubig unya mogamit og eco-bags kun dunay dad-on nga pagkaon, mag-anad sad ta nga dili mogamit og plastic,” Cabrera said. (I urged those who will visit the church to bring their own water container and eco-bags for food, let us also get used without plastic)

Barangay Environmental Officers (BEOs) will be deployed to help monitor the city’s cleanliness. Cabrera, however, said they will not be issuing citations against those who will be caught violating the anti-littering ordinance.

“Mamadlong lang, dili sila manakop kay naa raman sila sa barangays, unya mao gihapon, isip maoy head sa CCENRO nanghinaot lang ko nga ang atong kauban,  mga residente, mo-observe ta sa proper management sa atoang mga basura labi na karon init ang panahon,” Cabrera said.

The city has 220 BEOs stationed in different barangays.—  FPL (FREEMAN)
