Tourism activities resume in Southern Cebu after Typhoon Tino
CEBU, Philippines — Tourism activities in southern Cebu have gradually resumed, while some destinations remain closed, a day after Typhoon Tino struck Central Cebu on Tuesday morning, November 4.
In Oslob, the local government unit’s tourism office released an advisory announcing that all seawater-related activities and operations in Barangays Tan-awan and Bangcogon have resumed on November 5 following improved weather conditions.
The LGU declared that it is now safe to restart operations such as whale shark watching and other coastal activities in the said areas, except for Tumalog Falls, which remains closed until further notice as authorities continue assessing the site to ensure it is safe for visitors.
In Badian, the town’s popular Lambug Beach reopened yesterday to tourists. Visitors were encouraged to practice proper waste management and respect local guidelines to help maintain the cleanliness and safety of the destination.
Meanwhile, the famous Kawasan Falls and canyoneering activities remain closed due to ongoing clearing and safety operations.
In the neighboring town of Alegria, canyoneering and all river-based activities also remain temporarily suspended as precautionary measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and tourism workers while clearing and rehabilitation works are ongoing.
“Tourism operators, guides, and stakeholders are advised not to accommodate guests or resume any tourism activities until official clearance is issued. Further updates and coordination meetings will be conducted to evaluate site safety and determine when tourism activities may safely resume,” according to MDRRMO Alegria.
In Moalboal, classes resumed yesterday, November 6, while 408 families or 1,556 individuals who were evacuated during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino have already returned to their homes.
The Moalboal LGU reported no casualties and no damage to government buildings after the typhoon. However, 26 houses in five barangays sustained damage. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
