Pam backs breast cancer awareness drive

CEBU, Philippines — The fight against breast cancer is getting the support of Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro who stressed Capitol’s role in promoting early detection and providing assistance to survivors.

Last Tuesday, September 23, Baricuatro welcomed breast cancer survivors led by Mary Anne Alcordo Solomon, coordinator of ICanServe Foundation Cebu Link, in a courtesy visit at the Capitol

The visit was held ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, which seeks to increase awareness and encourage early detection of breast cancer, the leading cancer affecting women worldwide.

“As a woman, I am deeply aware of the dangers of breast cancer and the importance of government programs that ensure early detection, timely treatment, and continued support for patients and survivors,” Baricuatro said.

ICanServe Foundation, Inc., a Philippine-based network of breast cancer survivors and volunteers, has been working with local governments to build comprehensive breast cancer control programs. These include early detection, accurate diagnosis, timely treatment, survivorship care, palliative and hospice care, and patient navigation.

The foundation recently launched in a press conference the “Dance in Candyland: A Pink October Dance Fitness Party”, that aims to promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds for free mammograms especially to indigent women who cannot afford breast cancer treatment.

The dance fitness event, set to take place on October 18, 2025, from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. at the Waterfront Exhibition Hall, seeks to unite the community in moving with purpose and making a tangible impact on the lives of Filipino women.

Open to all ages, the event encourages the community to come together, move with purpose, and make a tangible difference in the lives of Filipino women.

Ron Bernabe, the foundation’s public relations officer said this event isn’t just about dancing but it’s about making a real impact. Bernabe added that through movement, community, and compassion, they can bring hope and awareness to the fight against breast cancer.

The event is organized by Generation Fitness, a community built on passion for dance fitness and advocacy founded by Franz Osalla. Generation Fitness is known for organizing meaningful events for Mental Health Awareness, World AIDS Day, and Breast Cancer Awareness.
