CEBU, Philippines — Re-elected Senator Christopher Lawrence Bong Go made his first official visit to Cebu on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, following his victory in the May 12 national and local elections where he secured the top spot with over 27 million votes.

Go garnered the highest number of senatorial votes in Cebu, further strengthening his longstanding connection with the province and its residents.

Speaking before 68 families affected by a recent fire in Barangay Labogon, Mandaue City, as well as supporters and local officials, the senator expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from Cebuanos.

Daghang salamat, Cebu! Kining inyong suporta dili gyud nako kalimtan. Ganti-an ko kini sa padayon nga tinuod nga serbisyo para sa katawhan, Go said.

The senator visited the fire-hit area in Barangay Labogon to assess the extent of the damage. He also checked on the residents and extended aid to the affected families.

Go emphasized to local officials the need for an immediate response to victims needs, highlighting the importance of prioritizing their health and safety.

Affected families received financial assistance, food packs, grocery items, water containers, basketballs, volleyballs, shirts, and caps.

Possessions can be replaced, money can be earned again, but life cannot be restored. A lost life is a lost life forever, he said.

As principal author and co-sponsor of Republic Act No. 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, Go continues to push for enhancing the capabilities of the BFP through equipment upgrades, additional personnel, and advanced training.

Joining Senator Go during the visit was Malasakit at Bayanihan Partylist Representative Girlie Veloso, who also thanked Cebuano voters and Filipinos nationwide for their trust and support.

Veloso s partylist secured the 11th spot out of 156 groups in the 2025 elections.

Di kini mahitabo kung wala ang suporta sa atong mga kaigsuonan nga mituo sa among adbokasiya sa Malasakit ug Bayanihan. Daghang salamat, Cebu ug sa tanang Pilipino,  Veloso said.

The joint visit underscored their continued advocacy for accessible healthcare, prompt government assistance, and inclusive public service.

Local leaders, including Mandaue City Mayor Glenn Bercede, lauded Go and Veloso for their consistent presence and hands-on approach, particularly in addressing the needs of ordinary Filipinos during calamities and difficult times.

As part of his Cebu visit, Senator Go also met with local officials attending the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Region VII Assembly, held at Bai Hotel in Mandaue City, where he personally thanked them for their trust and support.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to push for legislation that supports local government units, especially in the areas of healthcare, disaster response, and grassroots development.

He also highlighted the vital role of councilors in bringing national programs closer to their communities.

As he begins another six-year term in the Senate, Go vowed to remain grounded in the people s needs and committed to delivering responsive and compassionate service. — /FPL (FREEMAN)
