Over 8K households in Moalboal now have access to water supply
CEBU, Philippines — More than 8,000 households across nine barangays in Moalboal, Cebu now have access to clean and reliable water following the completion of the Moalboal Water Supply Project, inaugurated on Wednesday, June 11.
Outgoing Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, together with Moalboal Mayor Inocentes Cabaron, led the formal inauguration of the project in Barangay Bala last week.
The P300-million project includes a 63-kilometer pipeline network supplying water to Barangays Saavedra, Tubli, Basdiot, Poblacion West, Poblacion East, Tunga, Lanao, Bugho, and Bala. For years, many of these communities struggled with water scarcity.
According to Sugbo News, the Capitol’s official media arm, the project also features a modern water treatment facility in Barangay Bala. The facility draws water from a nearby spring, which is treated and purified to meet health and safety standards. Large reservoirs and storage tanks were also built, reportedly capable of supplying up to 6,000 cubic meters of water daily.
Moalboal is among 25 local government units targeted under the Capitol’s P3-billion water system development program, which aims to provide safe, stable water access to underserved areas throughout Cebu.
Officials said the project not only addresses a vital public need but also supports Moalboal’s growing tourism industry by strengthening its infrastructure. — Reynan Monleon Shyrielle Lariosa and Raphael Veloso, CNU Interns (FREEMAN)
