Akbayan hits Senate, LEDAC over failed P200 wage hike
CEBU, Philippines — Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña condemned the Senate and the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) for their alleged failure to advance the proposed P200 across-the-board wage hike.
Cendaña, in a statement, said while the House of Representatives passed the full P200 increase, the Senate only approved a P100 hike, and failed to adopt the House version before session adjourned.
Cendaña said the Senate had enough time to act but they lacked the political will.
He also criticized LEDAC, chaired by President Bongbong Marcos, for not certifying the bill as urgent, which could have expedited its passage.
Cendaña further questioned the Marcos administration’s commitment to labor welfare, saying the government’s silence and inaction show that workers are not a priority.
Labor groups have also criticized the Senate's P100 proposal as inadequate amid rising inflation.
Despite the setback, Akbayan vowed to refile the P200 wage hike bill in the 20th Congress, reiterating its commitment to push for higher wages in light of the continuing rise in living costs.(CEBU NEWS)
