New traffic scheme at UN Avenue intersection

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Mandaue Traffic Management Board has convened and adopted a new traffic scheme at the UN Avenue intersection --a continuity of the traffic intervention near a mall located in the area.

Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue head Hyll Retuya told reporters in an interview yesterday that there will be a new phase of the traffic lights near the Pacific Mall.

Retuya clarified that there will be no additional traffic lights, only additional phasing of the existing traffic lights in the area.

Retuya explained that with the new traffic intervention plan, the vehicles coming from Cansaga Bridge in Barangay Paknaan can execute a left turn to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

The traffic head said that with this scheme, the traffic board will now be eliminating the U-turning vehicles coming from a nearby funeral parlor and those from near a gasoline station.

According to Retuya, the U-turns being made in the area are causing interference and impeding the flow of traffic.

“Kani sa ilang gihimo nga pag U-turn diha, it created an interference, they are impeding the flow of the traffic,” said Retuya.

Retuya said that what they will do is synchronize with the Pacific Mall intersection since TEAM traffic enforcers are still managing that area.

“Para at least, ato ning tarungon g’yud ang flow sa traffic dinha,” said Retuya.

Retuya said that although there are interventions, motorists need not worry as there are no significant changes.

The traffic head added that hopefully the new administration will approve the traffic board’s proposal.

“With this proposal hopefully it will be adopted and approved by the incoming administration kani siya nga proposal kay it has been discussed and approved by the traffic board,” said Retuya. (CEBU NEWS)
