New Coast Guard Central Visayas chief assumes office
CEBU, Philippines — The Coast Guard District Central Visayas (CGDCV) recently held its change of command ceremony at HCGDCV Hawanan ni Lapulapu, Barangay Tinago, Cebu City.
Vice Admiral Edgar L. Ybañez, Deputy Commandant for Operations, served as the presiding officer.
The ceremony marked the formal turnover of command from Commodore Weniel A. Azcuna to Commodore Romeo P. Pulido Jr., who now assumed the post as commander of the CGDCV.
In his address, Ybañez commended Azcuna for his exemplary leadership, unwavering dedication, and significant accomplishments throughout his tenure.
He praised Azcuna’s integrity, strong sense of duty, and effective command, which he said greatly advanced the District’s mission in maritime safety, marine environmental protection, and maritime security and law enforcement.
Ybañez said that Azcuna left behind a legacy of professionalism and committed service that made a lasting impact on both the District and the communities it serves.
He said that the ceremonial transition reaffirmed the PCG’s enduring commitment to safeguarding the nation’s waters and upholding maritime safety, security, and service across Central Visayas.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard Central Visayas has successfully concluded the 10-day Basic Criminal Investigation Course Class 02-2025, in support of the directive of the PCG. It is aimed at enhancing the organization's law enforcement and investigative capabilities.
A total of 42 personnel completed the course, acquiring essential knowledge and skills in criminal investigation and legal procedures.
It strengthened the Coast Guard’s operational readiness in combating maritime crimes, upholding justice, and maintaining peace and order in Philippine waters. JG (CEBU NEWS)
