CEBU, Philippines — As part of the intensified campaign of the Police Regional Office (PRO) - 7 against loose firearms and illegal gun manufacturers, authorities raided 15 gun manufacturing sites in various Barangays in Danao City, Cebu, in a series of operations from March 26 to May 20, 2025.

The operations reportedly resulted in the confiscation of assorted firearms and ammunitions estimated to have reached millions of pesos and the arrest of three people.

PRO-7 Director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan said that those arrested for manufacturing illegal firearms in Danao City allegedly cater not only to local criminals but also to international criminal groups.

One example is the Indonesian terrorist arrested by police in Sarangani Province in 2023, who, according to authorities, purchased high-powered firearms from Danao that were smuggled via cargo shipment.

Maranan added that the arrested individuals were not merely small-time manufacturers, but key players in a sophisticated illegal firearms syndicate with international links.

Maranan presented during the press conference were the numerous confiscated materials and equipment used in the manufacture of illegal firearms, including drill presses, hand tools and unfinished gun parts. — (FREEMAN)
