CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) has collected close to P9 million in the first four months of 2025.

As the DVMF submitted its collection report so far for this year, Dr. Alice Utlang, City Veterinarian, said that her office is also income generating apart from being a service provider.

“Ang among office is both man gud income generating at the same time provide service. So, mao nang naa maningkamot gyud mi,” said Utlang, through the City’s Public Information Office.

According to its report, the DVMF’s collection has improved by 3.5 percent compared to the same period of last year.

The veterinary department earned a total of P8,702,226.21 from January to April as against the P8,407,757.91 in the first four months of 2024.

Majority of DMVF’s collection came from the “regulatory service fees” which is P4,481,337. This included fees in impounding of animals, meat inspection, and registration of animals.

Collection from private abattoirs' inspection fees amounted to P1,841,429.21.

Utlang attributed the higher collection to the strict implementation of the City Ordinance 2526 (Animal Welfare Ordinance), which required the registration of pets.

“Nitaas kay gi-implement nato ang naa sa ordinance, especially ang pet registration,” said Utlang.
