Two illegal gun workshops busted in Danao City
MANILA, Philippines — Two illegal gun-manufacturing facilities were uncovered in Danao City following back-to-back police operations on May 16 and 17, 2025.
On May 16, police operatives raided a site in Purok 5, Barangay Masaba, resulting in the arrest of a 46-year-old suspect for illegal possession and manufacturing of firearms.
Seized from the location were several unfinished pistols and pistol barrels, live ammunition, firearm magazines, and various metalworking tools and equipment, including a lathe machine, grinder and welding machine.
The suspect, who was apprised of his constitutional rights, is currently under police custody and faces charges under Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The suspect was caught red-handed assembling firearms inside a makeshift house.
The following day, May 17, a follow-up operation was conducted in Sitio Patag, Barangay Manlayag, where police discovered another illegal gun-manufacturing site.
The suspect, who remains unidentified, managed to evade arrest and is now the subject of an ongoing manhunt.
Recovered from the location were an unfinished rifle, a .22 caliber revolver, assorted live ammunition, magazines, and additional tools used for firearm production.
“These successful operations reflect our firm commitment to dismantling illegal firearm networks and protecting our communities from the dangers they pose. The discovery of these manufacturing sites sends a clear message: we will not tolerate the spread of unlicensed firearms in the province. Police Regional Office-7 regional director Police Brigadier General Redrico A. Maranan also lauded the swift response of the operating unit.
“This operation proves that no corner is too hidden, no act too secret. We are determined to hunt down and stop those who endanger public safety by fueling the black market of deadly weapons. We will be unyielding,” he said in a statement.
PRO-7 reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against the spread of unlicensed firearms across the region, underscoring its mission to safeguard communities and maintain public order.
