Bercede vows to cooperate with Ouano
CEBU, Philippines — Fresh from his election victory, Mandaue City Vice Mayor-elect Glenn Bercede has expressed willingness to cooperate with Mayor-elect Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano despite belonging to different political parties—all for the good of the Mandauehanons.
“Bisan og lahi mi og partido basta kaayuhan sa Mandauehanon, supportaan gyud nato,” Bercede said, assuring he is ready to work with Ouano.
Bercede also said he hopes the new mayor will continue the unfinished projects of the previous administration.
“Kay ang resulta gud ana, atong tumong man gyud ang kaugmaon sa mga Mandauehanon nga mulambo ang atong syudad,” he added.
Returning as the presiding officer of the city council, Bercede is optimistic that councilors from different parties will find a common ground.
The upcoming city council will include six members from the One Mandaue party--Joel Seno, Fritz Villamor, Eugene Andaya, Ben Basiga, Ting Sol Cabahug, and Anjong Ouano-Icalina.
Meanwhile, Team Mandaue will be represented by Jimmy Lumapas, Carlo Fortuna, Immaline Cortes-Zafra, Jun Arcilla, Jennifer Del Mar, and Editha Cabahug, who will be succeeded by her son, Looc Barangay Captain Kevin Cabahug, following her recent passing.
“During my years as vice mayor and presiding officer, malinawon man gud,” Bercede said, recalling his past experience.
He emphasized his ability to listen and adapt regardless of political affiliations.
“As vice mayor, kamao ko maminaw sa mga councilors and kamao mu adjust bisan asa pana nga political color,” he said. “Dili sad ko muingon nga mu kontra sa laing partido unya ari ko laban sa akong partido,” Bercede added.
Bercede stressed the importance of neutrality and maintaining peace in the city council.
“As the leader in the legislature, kailangan neutral ko kung unsay lakaw ana sa konseho and maintain nga malinawon gyud,” he said.
He underscored his commitment to working with all council members for the city’s benefit.
“Dili nana nako tan-awon ang kompetensya ug ang pagbabag kay ang effect ana adto ra gihapon sa mga tao paingon,” Bercede said.
“Maong atong ipadayon gyud kung unsay programa nga maayo sa mulingkod nga mayor, suportaan lang nato,” he added.
Bercede also expressed contentment with the peaceful conduct of the recent elections, despite Mandaue being classified under the yellow category.
“Okay ra ko sa result during elections kay peaceful ra siya nga gipahigayon,” he said.
He noted that the elections were smooth, much like previous ones.
“Ang uban muingon man gud nga ang Mandaue mao gyud ang atangan kay init kaayo ang election, di man—hamugaway man kaayo,” he remarked.
Bercede’s running mate, former mayor Jonas Cortes, lost the mayoral race to Ouano. Despite the outcome, Bercede described the elections as successful.
“Nalipay ra ko sa elections sa city since ang Mandauehanon ganahan gyud og malinawon nga election,” he said.
“Nahuman na ang election—naay mudaog, naay mapilde—natural man na during election,” Bercede added.
It can be recalled that Ouano and Bercede previously worked together as members of the Cebu Provincial Board representing the sixth district in 2016. FPL (CEBU NEWS)
