Bantayan to secure P300M loan for water project

CEBU, Philippines — The local government unit of Bantayan in northern Cebu is set to tackle the town’s persistent water problem by securing a P300-million loan from Landbank.
In a Facebook post on April 25, the LGU’s Public Information Office announced plans to expand the water reservoir in Barangay Atop-Atop.
Of the total loan amount, P225 million will be allocated for developing the water source, installing pumping stations, and laying large pipes to ensure water distribution across the town.
Meanwhile, the remaining P75 million will be used to install desalination plants in the islets of Lipayran, Botigues, Hilotongan, Doong, and Luyongbaybay, ensuring residents no longer need to travel to the mainland to access clean water.
The LGU acknowledged that the project had been planned for some time but faced delays after a council member raised concerns.
However, the majority of the town council has since approved the initiative, and the LGU is now working on the necessary documents to move the project forward. — (FREEMAN)
