Basak Pardo fire displaces 74 families
CEBU, Philippines — A fire broke out in Sitio Living Water, Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City, on April 18, 2025, affecting 74 families and displacing a total of 282 individuals.
Barangay Captain Dave Tumulak reported that as of 2:40 p.m. yesterday, 40 houses were damaged, 34 of which were completely destroyed, with an estimated loss amounting to P1.2 million.
In response, Tumulak stated that the Barangay Council intends to seek an exemption from the Commission on Elections to allow the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), the barangay, and the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO) to utilize their calamity fund for fire relief efforts.
According to the Cebu City Fire Department, the fire started at 9:56 a.m. in the residence of Froilan Pacala.
The alarm was raised to the first level at 9:57 a.m., escalated to the second level at 10:02 a.m., was declared under control by 10:46 a.m., and was fully extinguished by 11:27 a.m.
A total of 22 fire trucks responded to the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Tumulak confirmed that affected residents have been provided temporary shelter at Basak Community School. — (FREEMAN)
