City going after minors at coastal road viaduct

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government is taking action on minors allegedly seen throwing stones at the viaduct of the Cebu South Coastal Road.

Based on a viral video posted online, some minors were seen throwing stones at a vehicle passing through the viaduct.

It was later determined by the police that these minors were from Barangay Mambaling.

A meeting was called before the week ended at the mayor’s office to discuss the reported incident.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Cebu City Transportation Office, barangay officials from Pasil, Ermita, and Sawang Calero, along with police officers from the Carbon Police Station and Sawang Calero Police Station, Bantay Dagat, Philippine Coast Guard, SRP Patrol, Department of Social Welfare and Services and the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, Enhancement Team.

It was ag reed that the Philippine Coast Guard and the Cebu City Bantay Dagat Commission will help in going after these minors under their area of responsibility.

Barangay tanods from barangay sa Ermita, Pasil, and Sawang Calero are also tasked to monitor these minors who are usually passing through their area from the sea going up to the viaduct.

Some of these minors are also often seen doing death-defying diving from the viaduct.

Those involved in the meeting also agreed to create a chat group for easy communication and action.

CCTO chief Raquel Arce also suggested to the Office of the Mayor to formally order the creation of their monitoring group in the concerned area. — (FREEMAN)
