In Central Visayas: 2,000 PRO-7 cops deployed for Holy Week security

Mitchelle Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — A total of 2,134 police officers from the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) have been officially deployed across the region to provide security during the observance of Holy Week and the summer vacation season.

The send-off ceremony yesterday was led by PRO-7 Director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan.

“Today is very momentous because we will be sending out 2,000 policemen who will ensure the safety and security of our citizens while they are observing the Holy Week and at the same time enjoying the summer vacation,” said Maranan in his speech.

Maranan emphasized that while most Filipinos are taking the time to observe religious practices or visit tourist destinations, the Philippine National Police, especially PRO-7 personnel, will be on heightened alert to secure their properties, households, and businesses.

“The PNP and PRO-7 will be securing their households and businesses,” he assured.

He also expressed confidence that with the cooperation of other government agencies, peace and order in the region will be maintained.

“Of course, with the presence of other government agencies, we will ensure peace and order will be manageable, and we are aiming for a zero incident for this Holy Week,” said Maranan.

The deployment aims to ensure the safety of all residents and visitors across Central Visayas.

“During summer vacation, it is one of the busiest times wherein most of our Kababayans will go to tourist spots, to religious places, and other places of convergence. And as we all know, lawless elements and criminal elements may take advantage of the movement of people,” Maranan said.

"That’s why the Philippine National Police should be present, should be alert so that we can protect our Kababayans because it is our duty and it is our mandate to ensure the security and safety of everyone.

This deployment is not only a regular deployment," he added.

Maranan also reminded his personnel to stay committed to their mission of crime prevention.

“That’s why we should enhance our police presence in those aforementioned areas. The mission is to maintain peace and order,” he said, adding that the police will be conducting extensive patrolling in residential areas and business areas. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
