Residents with water problems to get containers

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the Department of Public Services has until today to distribute all the water containers to residents who are in need of water due to the dry season.
The Cebu City government recently purchased a total of 100 containers for water storage along with five new water tankers that will be used to ration water in the barangays.
Half of the containers have a capacity of 4,000 liters of water each, while the rest can hold 2,000 liters.
The Cebu City government planned to distribute such containers to areas in the city that are now starting to experience water shortage, the city’s Public Information Office said.
Most of the barangays having water shortage right now are in the mountain areas.
“I have already instructed the disaster office (Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office), as well as the DGS (Department of General Services) and DPS (Department of Public Services) to make sure that we are prepared for this eventuality, especially sa kakuwangan sa tubig sa bukirang mga barangay,” Cebu City Mayor Raymond Garcia said during the flag-raising ceremony yesterday.
Garcia wants the distribution of those containers done already so these can already be of use to those in need.
Last week, the likes of Barangays Sudlon 1 and have a capacity 2 already expressed water shortage concerns in their area to the city government.
Now, even Barangays Apas and Lahug are now affected by the lack of water supply due to the dry season. — (FREEMAN)
