Due to heavy rains: Badian, Alegria suspend canyoneering activities

CEBU, Philippines — Canyoneering activities in the southern Cebu towns of Badian and Alegria have been temporarily suspended until further notice due to heavy rains experienced over the past few days.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs) of both towns announced that exploring the Kanlaob River for canyoneering is unsafe given the current conditions.
Recent heavy rainfall has caused water levels in the river to rise, resulting in murky water conditions that pose risks to adventurers.
“These conditions pose potential hazards for both tourists and personnel, making navigation difficult and response to emergencies more challenging,” MDRRMO Alegria stated.
In addition to canyoneering, tourist visits to Cambais Falls in Barangay Guadalupe, Alegria, and Kawasan Falls in Badian have also been suspended until local government units (LGUs) declare them safe for reopening.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure public safety.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Visayas issued a heavy rainfall warning at 2 a.m. yesterday. The advisory urged residents in several areas of Cebu Province, including Santander, Ginatilan, Samboan, Oslob, Malabuyoc, Boljoon, Alegria, Dalaguete, Alcoy, Badian, Moalboal, Argao, Ronda, Alcantara, Sibonga, Dumanjug, Carcar City, and Barili, to remain alert for light to moderate rains with occasional heavy downpours.
Authorities urge the public to stay updated on weather advisories and avoid risky outdoor activities during adverse conditions. — (FREEMAN)
