Over 4,000 solo parents registered in Cebu City
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government has registered at least 4,000 solo parents in the city.
Of the total number, half of them belong to the poor sector in the society.
Currently, the city’s Management Information and Computer Services (MICS) is working on a system for the production of QR codes for their IDs that are similar to those of Persons With Disabilities registered in the city, the city’s PIO reported.
As solo parents, they also have benefits based on Republic Act 8972 or the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000 and the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act under Republic Act 11861.
For a better understanding of their privileges, the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) is encouraging solo parents in all of barangays here for them to attend the Solo Parents’ Congress set April 5 at the Cebu Eastern College.
DSWS head Portia Basmayor is also looking into printing a booklet for solo parents for discounts from different establishments here.
Earlier, around 70 City Hall employees underwent a seminar in line with the Expanded Solo Parents’ Welfare Act.
“Kay basi sa balaod, una sila makakuha og ID sa solo parents, gawas pa mo-renew sila, i-agi g’yud sila og orientation sa DSWS,” Basmayor said.
After the seminar, the employees also formed a group for themselves alongside the election of officers of the Solo Parents Association in City Hall.
This group is expected to develop activities and programs for the benefit of solo parents, especially among City Hall employees. CEBU NEWS)
