CCDRRMO orders evacuation of family over unsafe dwelling
CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRMO) Chief Comar Aderson ordered the forced evacuation of a family of five in Sitio Maracas, Barangay Lahug, after its dwelling was found to be unsafe.
Comar, in an interview with The Freeman, said that it’s not a sinkhole but a minor landslide that caused the affected family's home to be damaged.
Comar said the family reported the incident only after the damage had worsened.
The house is made of light materials, but its lower portion has a cement base.
“Dugay-dugay na diay to nahito. Ila lang gi-utong, anam anam og ka lusno. Dihang nadayunan na, ayha pa sila nag-kisi-kisi,” Comar said.
Comar ordered a forced evacuation in their area and moved them to their relatives nearby.
The City’s Public Information Office reported that the CCDRRMO and Quick Response Team (QRT) personnel, along with Barangay Lahug officials, conducted a final assessment of the reported landslide inside a residential property in Sitio Maracas.
The assessment aims to gather crucial data for submission to Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia so that immediate and appropriate actions could be taken to mitigate any potential risks.
Authorities are prioritizing a swift response to prevent further damage and safeguard both the affected family and nearby residents.
CCDRRMO is also expected to continue monitoring the situation closely and coordinate with concerned agencies for necessary interventions.
