PRO-7 launches Emergency Alert Button app

CEBU, Philippines — To enhance safety among establishments, the Police Regional Office-7 recently launched the Emergency Alert Button app, a communication tool that operates without the need for data or Wi-Fi.
PRO-7 regional director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, who led the activation of this tool, said the app is designed to provide immediate police assistance 24/7 to business establishments and vital installations within the PRO-7 jurisdiction.
Maranan said that this tool will enable police to respond more swiftly, effectively, and reliably.
By utilizing the Emergency Alert App, establishments can enhance their security measures, particularly those that are vulnerable or operate around the clock without security, allowing them to send instantaneous alerts to police during emergencies.
The launching and activation ceremony included an informative audio-visual presentation that covered the project's background, concept, and installation procedures, helping attendees understand the app’s purpose and functionality.
A live simulation was also demonstrated to show the app’s performance in a real-life scenario, streamed through the Discord app and provide the audience insight into how the app operates in critical situations.
In his address, Maranan encouraged various police units to thoroughly master the system, understand the app’s mechanics, and prepare for diverse scenarios.
Maranan stressed the importance of responding with urgency and coordinated efforts, as timely action is crucial in emergencies.
“Our approach to policing must evolve to meet contemporary challenges. While the roles of apprehending and arresting officers remain fundamental, our focus must shift toward crime prevention. In emergencies, our responses must be immediate, calculated, and relentless. The Emergency Alert Button exemplifies our commitment to connecting individuals in need with prompt assistance, paving the way for a safer, more connected future for everyone," said Maranan.
He concluded by affirming that the Central Visayas police force is well-equipped to face the challenges of modern security threats.
The event was attended by city and provincial directors, Cebu City government officials, partner agencies, stakeholders, and members of the press, with various police units and stations joining virtually via Zoom. — (FREEMAN)
