Climate and disaster resilience expo set in Cebu this July

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City will host the Visayas leg of the Handa Pilipinas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Innovations in Climate and Disaster and Resilience Nationwide Exposition 2024 on July 24 and 25 at Radisson Hotel.

In a memo from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST intends to intensify the campaign through different concepts, including climate and environment related challenges in the Philippines and where science can be most impactful.

It has also been emphasized that risks are local, therefore resilience efforts are localized along with risk governance, and digital transformation in the resilience agenda.

This year’s expo will also feature exhibits, demonstrations, workshops, forums, and conferences that will showcase the latest innovation in climate and disaster resilience.

DOST-funded projects and technology on early warning systems, disaster risk reduction tools, sustainability technologies, and other innovative solutions are also expected to be showcased.

DILG strongly encourages local chief executives to attend the scheduled exposition along with their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management officers and other local offices and personnel who play a crucial role in climate and disaster resilience.

The invitation has also been extended to the Sanggunian, as well as those individuals living in risk-prone areas, and to community leaders and volunteers, and the general public.

The use of government funds for this purpose may be allowed subject to availability and usual accounting and auditing rules and regulations.

For the Luzon leg, it is set on July 3-5, 2024 at Plaza del Norte Hotel, Paoay, llocos Norte while the Mindanao leg on October 2-4 will be at KCC Convention Center’ Veranza Atrium, DOST 12 General Santos City.  (CEBU NEWS)
