Better economy, less traffic, and a greener Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines — As a new year begins, officials of Cebu City have expressed their hopes and wishes for the Cebuanos.

In a phone interview with The Freeman yesterday, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama described the year 2023 as a  challenging  one.

For 2024 he hopes everyone will be  safe and secure  as he also aspires to see the  light at the end of the tunnel .

Dropping hints for 2024, Rama said he would like to see Cebu City filled with greenery. He envisions enhanced major and mini parks, and a redefined Cebu City as a corner of arts.

He also looks forward to the upcoming events of the city, like the Sinulog 2024 and the Palarong Pambansa, adding that there is  brightness  to these events.

According to Rama, he had already established at least 600 projects for his whole duration of public service.

 I wish as a servant na I can be of great defense of making the lives of the poor better, mao gyud na ako,  the Mayor said.

On his side, Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia expresses gratitude for everyone who has been part of the city government for 2023, especially for those who were part of the development and progress of Cebu City, particularly the private sector.

Garcia also highlighted the contribution of the private sector to the rise of the city from the effects of Typhoon Odette and the COVID-19 pandemic.

 Our economy is opening and we see more economic activity not only because of the government, but also because of the private sector. We have them to thank,  said Garcia.

 Hopefully next year, mas grabe na gyud atong economic activity, I am hoping and wishing that business establishments will flourish, will profit so that when they all do well in business, and the private sector does well, the government and the entire city will be elevated,  he added.
