Cebu City inks MOA with Japan company

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City government has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Japan’s KGS Corporation for the free use of their products for visually-impaired Cebuanos.

The MOA was originally set for one year only, just like in the local government of Mandaue last year, but Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, during the MOA signing, said the agreement is just too short, so he changed it to three years.

KGS Corporation officials showed no objection and gave a nod to it.

City Councilor Donaldo Hontiveros said the KGS is lending the city government three units of the Braille Memo Smart 40 (BMS40).

It will be placed at the city library for the visually impaired Cebuanos who cannot use the standard computers.

The city library already had been using KGS products since 2016, but the upgraded version is a very welcome development for the Cebuano visually-impaired and blind people.

Such a move is one of the city government’s efforts to an inclusive approach of Rama’s administration that is highly welcomed by the differently-abled Cebuanos.

Aside from the MOA with KGS regarding the use of some BMS40, Rama said he will also be checking with the said company for other products and services that may also be good for the City of Cebu. —GAN (FREEMAN)
