DICT urges public: Register your SIM

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — With less than a month left before the deadline for sim registration, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is urging the public to register now to avoid the deactivation of their sims.

The sim registration period commenced last December 27, 2022 and is set to end on April 26.

This came following the signing of the SIM Card Registration Act (RA 11934). The law is expected to regulate the use of SIM cards.

An extension for the registration period has not yet been decided yet.

“The month-long countdown to the SIM registration deadline has begun, and we strongly encourage unregistered citizens to register their SIMs as soon as possible,” said DICT Undersecretary at Spokesperson Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo.

DICT said that the numbers of registered sims have steadily increased, but they still urge those who have not yet enlisted to do it now for the country to have a safe digital environment.

“The high compliance rate is a testament to the cooperation of the public, and we want to thank everyone who has already registered. However, we must continue to work together to ensure that all SIMs are registered to safeguard our personal information and promote a safer digital environment,” Lamentillo said.

Based on the latest data from DICT from local public telecommunications entities, there is now a total of 52,380,146 registered sims.

About 26,734,423 Smart subscribers have registered, DITO with 3,963,358, and Globe with 21,682,365.

For those who have not yet registered, for Smart, they can register via smart.com.ph/simreg or simreg.smart.com.ph; Globe– new.globe.com.ph/simreg and DITO via https://digital.dito.ph/pto/download/app.

For questions and other inquiries regarding the sim registration, one may call 1326 or reach out to DICT through 0947 714 7105 (Smart), 0966 976 5971 (Globe), and 0991 481 4225 (Dito).

Unregistered sims after the deadline, will be deactivated and cannot be used anymore whether for calls, text, or mobile data. — GAN (FREEMAN)
