Robhe Jane C. Yara - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his father and injuring some of his relatives in Barangay Talima on Olango Island, Lapu-Lapu City.

The suspect was identified as Kharl Filkevin Tongco, a resident of Sitio Libertad of the barangay.

Police Major Felix Cleopas, the chief of Olango Police Station, said the arrest happened on Thursday through a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Ruelo Saladaga of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 69 in Lapu-Lapu City.

Cleopas said the suspect's relatives initiated the filing of charges against him.

Based on the initial reports they received, Cleopas said, the crime happened on the evening of December 26, 2022, around 7 p.m. at Sitio Crossing in Barangay Talima.

It was when the suspect allegedly killed his father and injured some of his relatives.

The police are still conducting verification and investigation to shed light of what really happened.

Cleopas said that as they got a chance to talk to the suspect, the latter denied the allegations against him.

The suspect seemed shocked when the police presented him with a warrant and came to arrest him.

Tongco also did not provide further details on what happened during the incident, citing that his lawyer is now working on it.

Cleopas said Tongco is classified as one of their most wanted persons at the provincial level.

He will be facing charges for parricide and frustrated murder.

Meanwhile, the police always remind the public to talk over their problems and observe patience and understanding to avoid committing criminal acts. — GMR (FREEMAN)
