CEBU, Philippines —  An early Saturday morning fire hit Barangay Basak in Lapu-Lapu City, damaging more or less P375,000 worth of properties.

Fire Officer 2 Mildred Villapan of the Lapu-Lapu City Fire Station said the cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

Villapan said that based on initial reports, the fire originated in one of Cebu’s prominent lechon restaurants situated in the area.

She said the incident was reported to them around 3:05 in the morning. The fire was raised to the second alarm before it was declared fire out for roughly an hour at 4:30 a.m.

She added that it took at least 15 fire trucks from Lapu-Lapu City and its neighboring cities of Mandaue and Cebu for the fire to be extinguished.

Villapan said there are about 21 houses affected by the fire, but some were only partially burned.

She, however, said that there were no casualties or deaths recorded from the incident.

In the initial record of the Lapu-Lapu City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), there are about 100 individuals who were victims of the fire.

They are currently housed at Barangay Basak gym where they were already provided with their basic needs, such as food and clothing. — GMR (FREEMAN)
