CEBU, Philippines — With the major Sinulog-related activities over, the Cebu City government now shifts gears to its preparation for the city’s 86th Charter Day with week-long activities already set for the celebration.

City Administrator Suzanne Ardosa announced yesterday during its flag raising activities the different events that employees are encouraged to take part of – from quiz bees to tree-planting events.

For the employees, some of the contests they are expected to join include the Cebu City Hall Got Talent, a fitness challenge via the Wellness Day, and a quiz bowl.

There would also be a Family Day at the South Road Properties where employees and their family members can enjoy the different activities, contests, and a free health check-up.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama will also be awarding the most outstanding employees, and best departments.

An inter-department showcase in a mall will also be done anew for the public to know the different services offered by each department of the city government.

A massive tree-planting activity is also being set not only for the employees but for all individuals who want to take part in the activity.  This is part of the city’s greening program.

Small businesses in the city, on the other hand, will have a fair at the Plaza Sugbo grounds.

Youngsters in the city are also set to showcase their wares in the Balat and Awit contest.

The top taxpayers will also be recognized for their contributions to the city during the taxpayers’ night with a testimonial dinner.

A wreath-laying ceremony for the late Don Vicente Rama, as well as an exhibit of his memorabilia, is also set.

On the Charter Day itself on February 24, there will be a mass and launching of the Cebu City hymn contest and inauguration of some computer projects.

The day will end with the recognition of Cebuanos who made valuable contributions and honor to the city. — GAN (FREEMAN)
