City opens search for talented youth

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebuano youth get to showcase their talents anew in public speaking and singing in Cebu City’s Balakwit Season 2 that is set to be staged next month.

Face-to-face elimination takes place on February 12 at One Fine Pictures Photo Studio at the Robinsons Galleria, while the grand finals is scheduled February 18 in a still unannounced venue.

The event is open to students from Cebu City-based schools and youth from any of the 80 barangays in the city who are between 15 and 30 years old.

Schools or barangays may send as many entries as they want.

For the “balak” contest, one must submit an original piece, not copied or translated from other works or authors, on or before 5 p.m. before the elimination day at [email protected].

Contest pieces must be submitted in Times New Roman font style, 11 would be its font size, 1.5 spacing, must be justified, normal default, margin of 1 inch in all sides; and on A4 white paper with no other markings other than the title of the piece.

For the singing contest, participants must submit a maximum of two minus one or instrumental songs.

The two songs must be submitted to the [email protected] on or before 5 p.m. on February 11.

During the eliminations, contestants are required to wear plain black shirts and jeans.

The top 10 finalists in both contests would advance to compete in the grand finals on February 18.

Cash prizes await the top performers of this event organized by the Cebu City Government - Cebu City Youth Development Commission along with the SK Federation of Cebu City, and the Cebu City Anti-Discrimination Commission. (FREEMAN)
