CCMC’s full operation moved to November

CEBU, Philippines — After failing to meet the target completion date of the Cebu City Medical Center last 2022, another timeline is set.

Cebu City Mayor Michael “Mike” Rama said that the building’s shell will already be completed by June 2023 and that the entire hospital would already be functional by November of the same year.

“We already have a date that it should be completed by June. By November, it should already be functional, the whole 10 floors,” Rama said.

Currently, only the ground floor and the second floor are functional, while the third and the fourth floors are being worked out.

Rama earlier wanted to have the CCMC completed during his 68th birthday last October 28, but he only got a new operating room complex unveiled on the third floor, instead.

With little progress in the CCMC construction in 2022, Rama decided to terminate the contract with M.E. Sicat Construction Incorporated.

It was mutually agreed that the actual accomplishment and the amount that the city government needs to pay are still currently being reconciled.

“Ongoing inventory, closure, and auditing and by January after Sinulog,” Rama said.

The mayor also revealed that they already have a framework as to how the completion would work.

After announcing last November the termination of the contract with the phase 4 contractor, Rama said he is no longer keen at looking for another contractor.

Rama had been asking for help from business tycoons to help the city finish the long-overdue project.

“We already have a framework on how to go about it and I’m very much optimistic,” Rama added.

Rama said they will make an announcement in due time for the resumption of work at the CCMC.

“With everyone helping, people’s participation. In God’s time, everybody working, because it is a people’s hospital, where (the) so-called service is for the poor,” said Rama. — GAN (FREEMAN)
