Fire burns P500 million worth of properties in Cebu City since January this year

CEBU, Philippines — At least P500 million worth in properties burned to ashes in 219 fires in Cebu City since January this year.

Data at the Cebu City Fire Station showed that in January, there’re were 26 fire incidents recorded, 16 in February, 26 in March, 13 in April, 17 in May, 20 in June, 18 in July, 21 in August, 18 each in September and October, 22 in November and four as of December 6 this year.

The 219 fire incidents reportedly left a total of P515.8 million in damages, bigger than last year’s P100.6 million in 203 fires reported in the same period.

According to the spokesperson of the Cebu City Fire Station, SFO2 Wendell Villanueva, they are hoping that no more fire incidents would be added this year emphasizing that fire safety is a concern of everyone not just to the firefighters.

"Can we afford to add more damage ani, dili na. So we need to kuan gyud step up, we need to educate na gyud. Balik-balik na sad ang kuan at the end of the day ang fire prevention ug fire safety is really everyone's concern,” said Villanueva.

Of the total fire incidents in Cebu City this year, Villanueva stressed that no casualty was reported. — Banat News, GMR (FREEMAN)
