CEBU, Philippines —  Some job order and casual workers of the Cebu City government stand at risk of losing their jobs after testing positive in the surprise drug test of the Cebu City Office of Substance Abuse Prevention.

At least six JOs and one casual employee failed the screening out of the 565 employees who were made to undergo the drug test.

According to Mayor Michael Rama's special assistant, Ramil Ayuman, those who failed in the screening were workers under the City Agriculture Department (1), Department of General Services (3), Barangay Environmental Officers (2), and the Cebu City Environmental Sanitation and Enforcement Team (1).

On the other hand, a total of 220 employees turned out negative. They were from the City Treasurer's Office (220), Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification and Enhancement (138), City Budget Office (28), Parks and Playground (128), Anti-Discrimination Office (27), and Fort San Pedro (17).

The results of the drug test for personnel of Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), Market Operations Division, Office of the Vice Mayor and city councilors are still unavailable as of this writing.

COSAP head Jonah John Rodriquez said they will forward the results to Manila for a confirmatory test.

If these JOs and casual employees still turn out positive in the confirmatory testing, they will be automatically terminated, according to Rodriguez.

He also said that COSAP is offering rehabilitation program if they so wish.

“Kun mahuman nila ang rehab program, unya ganahan sila mangaplay og balik puhon sa trabaho, pangitaan man sila og certificate of completion sa rehab program,” Rodriguez told The FREEMAN yesterday.

In the event that a regular employee will also fail the screening, he or she will undergo a six-month rehabilitation, as well as an assessment.

While undergoing rehabilitation, they have to use their leave credits and "leave without pay" for the remaining days until completion of the program.  – Sanden J. Anadia, JMD (FREEMAN)
