Oppra road project to resume soon

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The unfinished road construction in Oppra, in Barangay Kalunasan, which has caused so much inconvenience to motorists and residents alike, is expected to resume soon.

This, after the Cebu City Government has already signed the voucher for the payment of the work accomplished so far by the contractor.

A complaint from residents have already reach the city’s PIO and even to The FREEMAN asking for help about the road project.

“Katong gitrabaho nga road concreting sa Docast construction murag gihunongan naman sad. Karon sigeg uwan-uwan, katong wa nila gihuman nga pagsemento nga agian namo mga motorista magbaha naman. Daghan kaayong maapektohan mga bata, labi na ron tingklase. Hinaot maaksyonan og mapalihok balik ang contractor,” read part of the message sent to The FREEMAN.

The city’s PIO, on the other hand, has reported that there had been some mishaps that happened because of the work stoppage, especially when it rains.

City Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of the committee on infrastructure, also told The FREEMAN that they have also received similar complaints a few months back and had also called the attention of Docast.

The road concreting was supposed to have been done last June, but the contractor stopped its works until the city government pays the amount of the part of the road that they have already accomplished.

The entire project cost P23,837,897.07.

Guardo, however, said the voucher had already been signed after the contractor complied with the required documents.

“Giprocess na ilang papers para ma-release na ang payment. With that, they also assured that they will resume their work ug balik, kay napirmahan naman tong ilang check for partial collection,” said Guardo.

Guardo said, they could not also blame the contractor for stopping as they had already spent so much for the road construction and they also needed funding to continue with the remaining part of the project.

“Hopefully, mahuman na gyud ni. Derecho-derecho naman to kay napirmahan naman ang voucher. And cheque for releasing na man to,” said Guardo. (FREEMAN)
