Demolition chief now heads CCTO

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City’s demolition chief has been appointed officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) effective immediately.

Mayor Michael Rama designated Raquel Arce as acting head of CCTO on top of her workload as head of the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, and Enhancement (PROBE).

She was, however, relieved of her designation as OIC of Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO). Rama has reinstated Harold Alcontin as the city’s disaster office chief.

Alcontin is not new to the position because he used to head the office before Arce’s designation on June 27, 2022.

“Di na ni siya bag-o sa akoa…but ako kang gyud sundon kung unsay priorities ni Mayor Rama especially sa iyang vision for the city to be Singapore-like,” Alcontin said.

“As of now, wala pa mi nagka-estorya ni Mayor kay tua paman siya sa Manila, but ang initial lang namo na sabot, ang pag turn-over sa mga activities nga gihan-ay na nato sa office ang iyang project sa Gubat sa Baha ug ang kaning clean-up (SRP) para sa pag-prepare sa Sinulog 2023 ug sa Kalagkalag,” he added.

This is the latest round of the continuing reorganization at the City Hall. Earlier, Rama also reinstated Dr. Daisy Villa as the chief of the Cebu City Health Department.

CHD officer-in-charge Dr. Jeffrey Ibones was relegated as Villa’s assistant. City administrator Suzanne Ardosa, however, said that Ibones will also help Rama in another capacity.

“Si Daisy Villa ang iyang item is City Health officer man gyud siya. Siya man gyud ang officially appointed as City Health officer unya si Doc Ibones is the assistant city health officer. We are just putting them back…except sa CITOM (the former name of CCTO) kay wa man siyay department head,” Ardosa explained.

“Naay ipa implement nga program and ang gustong ibutang gyud na mga OIC career position are regular employees,” she added.

Ardosa said more changes might come in the future depending on the decision of the mayor.

“Depende ni Mayor kung tan-awa niya, naay mga tabangan na mga opisina, naay mga program nga kinahanglan ma paspasan, so most probably,” said Rama. —Decemay Padilla (FREEMAN)
