BOC-Cebu surpasses Sept collection target

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Cebu has collected about P4.5 billion in September, surpassing its target by more than P1.1 billion or 33.8 percent.

The collection has set the bureau’s highest monthly revenue record anew and reflects a P1.7 billion or 59.43 percent year-on-year growth.

BOC Cebu District Collector Charlito Martin R. Mendoza said that with everyone’s renewed commitment and revved-up enthusiasm, they again crossed the P4-billion mark.

The bureau has first breached the P4-billion mark in July this year.

“We have also set the port’s highest quarterly collection this year at P12.38 billion,” Mendoza said.

The bureau now has a total running collection of P32.57 billion with a surplus of P4.31 billion or 15.26 percent.

Mendoza has attributed the collection performance to the dedication and active participation of the port’s personnel in the BOC’s reform programs.

He likewise credited the accomplishment to the steadfast support of the Port of Cebu’s stakeholders and partner agencies in implementing its good governance initiatives.

With only a little over P5 billion left in its annual collection target, the bureau is well on track to deliver a sizable collection surplus to the national treasury by year end.

Under the leadership of Commissioner Yogi Filemon L. Ruiz, the Port of Cebu continues to strive to surpass the collection targets for the remaining months of the year and contribute to the government’s economic recovery programs. — GAN (FREEMAN)
