Dalogdog is Cebu City’s new police chief

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The former regional director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-7, Col. Ireneo Dalogdog, has confirmed his appointment as new director of the Cebu City Police Office.

In an interview with The Freeman and Banat News, Dalogdog said he has already received the memorandum from Camp Crame on his new assignment. The memo also terminated his duties as chief of CIDG-7.

“Naa nay memo galing sa national headquarters, sa Camp Crame, designating me (as CCPO chief)… tapos, na-terminate na yung order ko as RD ng CIDG-7 and dinisignate ako as city director ng Cebu City Police Office,” Dalogdog said.

Based on the memo, Dalogdog’s new assignment takes effect October 1 but the formal turnover will be on Monday, October 3, yet.

"Ang sa Crame nga order, effective October 1, kaya nga ang instructions ni RD kanina, nag-courtesy call ako sa kanya kaninang umaga, sabi niya, Rene, mag-assume kana as CD sa Cebu City pero yung formal turnover ceremony gaganapin natin ngayong Monday,” Dalogdog shared.

Dalogdog paid a courtesy visit on Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 Director, Brigadier General Roque Eduardo Vega, on Saturday, October 1.

Dalogdog said the Cebu City Police Office will align with the programs of PNP chief Rodolfo Azurin, Jr.

He will also ask for a briefing on CCPO’s existing programs on peace and order.

"I-continue pa rin natin yun kasi, syempre, unang-una, Cebu City is napakalaking siyudad. Di mawawala diyan yung kampanya against criminality, yung kampanya against sa drugs... so ipagpatuloy pa rin natin yung mga programa na yun kasi yun ang pinaka-importante para sa ganun tayo ay makakatulong dito sa pag-improve ng crime solution efficiency natin,” he said.

No less than Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama recommended Dalogdog to be the new city police chief, replacing Col. Ernesto Salvador Tagle.

Rama said two others were recommended for the post but Dalogdog stood out during the interview process as he was able to articulate well what needs to be addressed to when it comes to the city’s peace and order situation.

“He went through a process. He was being interviewed by a panel and he was the one. There were three of them,” Rama said.

The mayor also said in a separate interview Dalogdog has sent him a message confirming the designation order, and to thank him for the support.

Rama said he hopes for Dalogdog’s programs to be in line with his Executive Order on “Oplan Disiplina,” the city’s new campaign to enforce ordinances and laws better at the barangay level.

“Hit the ground... hit the ground, especially on my order on Oplan Disiplina… it’s a priority,” Rama said.  – Decemay P. Padilla, JMO (FREEMAN)
