Cops vow to implement all Cebu City ordinances

Romeo D. Marantal - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Police Office has vowed to implement all ordinances that are included in the Oplan Disiplina program of the city government.

It was suggested that a holding center be set up for those who violate the ordinances but some said that there is no need for a holding center because there are other ordinances that are punishable by fines.

Once everything that is required for Oplan Disiplina is finalized, the police can now issue citation tickets to violators.

"Citation tickets are currently being consolidated and reviewed for possible additional violations… Any authorized government employee will be able to issue citations to violators,” said CPPO Deputy City Director for Administration Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla.

Parilla said that apart from the implementation of the ordinance, they will also provide security to those who will implement the Oplan Disiplina.

“Ang atoa mostly karon kay naa man gi-create nga mga task force like PROBE, ang CESET, Markets so ang atoa ang PNP nato we'll serve as the security sa tanang mga groups nga gi-create sa City nga mo-implement aning Oplan Disiplina", said Parilla.

There is an existing and corresponding fine for all ordinances as they have already been implemented before, just not properly, Parilla explained.

Smoking, remaining shirtless, and urinating in public and/or undesignated areas are just some of the strict prohibitions that all authorized agencies will be made to follow.

In case that they may not have the means to pay for such citations, violators will be made to conduct community service.

Parilla also called on the public to heed the holiday season as incidents surrounding ATMSs and the exchange of fake money are most likely to occur. He said that as of now, the city government is pushing for the installation of CCTVs in establishments, especially ones along the highway, within the next year.

It was learned that on October 1, Saturday, there will be a dry run for Oplan Disiplina in the city.

Parilla described that all the ordinances can be implemented because they have partners like PROBE, CESET and others.

“Naa namam tay daghang mga personnel, even karon for example kanang sa mendicants, kanang sa mga sidewalks, naa na ta ana, 24 hours na sila, ang atoa sa PNP we will assist them considering nga gamay ra sab ang atong personnel we will serve as security sa tanang mga groups, o mabuo nga mga grupo nga maoy mo implement ani",  Parilla added.

Parilla said this is a great help not only to the security of the city but also to the safety of the people of the city. — Nina Tundag, JMD (FREEMAN)
