CEBU, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu has surpassed its P3.70 billion monthly revenue target by P269 million or 7.27 percent as it was able to collect a total revenue of P3.968 billion for the month of June.

The BOC-Port of Cebu, based on a preliminary report, is among the 14 out of the 17 collection districts nationwide which surpassed its collection targets.

The other 13 collection districts are San Fernando, Port of Manila, Manila International Container Port, Batangas, Legaspi, Iloilo, Surigao, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri, and Limay.

According to BOC-Port of Cebu, its June revenue collection is now the highest monthly collection ever posted in the port’s history.

On a three-month streak, the BOC-Port of Cebu has collected its three highest monthly revenues this April, May, and June.

It said that this month’s collection is higher than the previous month’s P3.60 billion collection and posts a significant year-on-year increase of 31.76 percent compared to the port’s collection of P3.012 billion last June 2021.

BOC-Cebu District Collector Charlito Martin R. Mendoza credited the consistent positive collection performance to the untiring service of the men and women of the Port of Cebu and thanked its stakeholders and partner government agencies for the constant support.

He also attributed the feat to the guidance and transformative efforts of Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.

“The persistent vigilance against smuggling, enhancement of trade facilitation through regular stakeholder engagement, and maximizing non-traditional revenue sources have greatly contributed to the laudable collection efforts of the Port,” said Mendoza on their Facebook post.

The sustained collection performance of the Port, beating its targets for six consecutive months now, brings a total revenue collection of P20.189 billion and a surplus of P3.05 billion over its cumulative target of P17.140 billion for the first half of 2022.

Overall, the entire BOC nationwide for the month of June 2022, records its highest monthly collection in history with P76.290 billion collection, surpassing its target of P56.287 billion by P20.003 billion or +35.5 percent based on the preliminary report from the BOC Financial Service.

The BOC broke its previous highest monthly collection record of P70.778 billion for March 2022.

The BOC surpassed its midyear target collection of P327.812 billion by P68.992 billion or +21.05 percent with an actual collection of P396.804 billion in January 2022.

In a statement, it added that BOC’s cumulative or midyear collection this year is also higher by +31.5 percent or P95.058 billion than the P301.746 billion midyear collection in 2021.

The collection performance of the BOC and its 17 collection districts, under the leadership of Guerrero, is attributed to the improved valuation of the bureau, its digitized and modernized systems, the improving economy resulting in higher volume of importations, and the intensified collection efforts of all the collection districts. — GMR (FREEMAN)
