Yapha posts bail for violating election code

CEBU, Philippines —  Former Cebu third district congressman Antonio Yapha Jr. has voluntarily surrendered before the Toledo City police in the case for alleged violation the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines.

Police Lt. Colonel Junnel Caadlawon, Toledo City Police Station chief said, Yapha, also the city’s former vice mayor, had personally known that a warrant of arrest was issued against him by acting Presiding Judge Judilyn Hugo-Tapia Menchavez last week.

Yapha posted the recommended bail of P36,000.

Yapha was charged for alleged irregularities in his expenditures submitted before the Commission on Elections who filed the complaint.

"Nahulog lang gyud nga ni surrender sya kay niari dayon sya sa atong station," said Caadlawon.

"Wala gyud miingon nga ato gyud syang gipangita kay pagkahibaw niya nga naa syay warrant ni coordinate dayon siya sa atong kapolisan," said Caadlawon.

Yapha surrendered to authorities on July 22 at around 10 a.m.

"After that, ni post sya sa iyang temporary liberty, ni bail out na dayon siya," said Caadlawon.

According to Caadlawon, Yapha was able to submit his election expenditures but the Comelec might have not been satisfied with the documents presented.

He added that Yapha didn't divulge further on the possibility that the accusation has been politically-motivated.

"Wala naman sad siya sa politics mao tong iyang gipyansahan to," said Caadlawon. — GMR (FREEMAN)
