CEBU, Philippines —  Acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama wants all City Hall employees to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and warned those who will refuse will not receive a bonus.

Rama has ordered all department heads to register their employees in the masterlist for the city government’s immunization program. The order was given during City Hall’s first “new normal” flag raising ceremony at Plaza Sugbo yesterday morning.

“Every department, when I try to visit I want to see a temperature scanner. I want to see registration, registration sa mga empleyado aron mahuman ta og register and we develop a masterlist and submit it to book vaccine operation center,” the acting mayor said.

According to Rama, all employees—regular, casual and job order—should be inoculated without distinction.

Rama said the city could hit 100,000 people vaccinated in no time if all City Hall workers are vaccinated. So far, the city has vaccinated 90,000 residents.

“Charity begins at home, leadership by example… I have to call this meeting because your leadership as head, your being a part of the city government demands that you must be a part of this program”, Rama told the department heads.

He warned that employees who won’t complete the two doses of COVID-19 vaccine will not receive their bonus.

“Way bonus madawat kung dili duha ka dose jud ang atong ipa injection sa atong bukton. Ang bonus gisabutan na namo na ni Mayor Edgar Labella,” Rama said.

Apart from getting vaccinated, Rama also wants the city employees to serve as protocol enforcement “marshals”.

“Nine thousand (9,000) kabuok marshals. Unsay mahitabo, people will be conscious in the compliance of protocol requirements,” Rama said.

“Naay bonus ug way bonus, mutabang mo. Mao nay importante,” he added.

The acting mayor also urged all employees to “do an examination of conscience per department.”

“Ayaw’g pangawat. Di ko gusto’g kawatan, di ko gusto’g hugawan, way hibaw-an, tapulan, ug sa katapusan, palaaway,” he said. — Loreine Kyra Lebumfacil, CNU Comm Intern and Deogracia William Bemida, Silliman University Intern, FPL (FREEMAN)
