56 cops to get first COVID-19 jabs

CEBU, Philippines —  Fifty-six police officers of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) are set to receive their first dose of vaccine against COVID-19.

They will be the first in line for coronavirus vaccine after getting the green light from the national headquarters.

In support of the country’s vaccination efforts, Police Lt. Colonel Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations, said the 56 officers will be the first batch from the police force.

“We recommended the officers as the first batch to get the vaccine against COVID,” he said.

He said CCPO made a request to Cebu City government to include them in the vaccination priority list. CCPO’s letter of coordination was approved yesterday by the City Hall.

He said they are getting vaccine jabs Monday or Tuesday next week.

The rest of the CCPO personnel will follow next, said Parilla.

But said they scheduled their vaccination by batch to avoid disruptions from their daily functions as law enforcers.

“For us, any brand of approved vaccine will do. The entire CCPO will be getting vaccinated,” he said.

At present, Cebu City is rolling out a vaccination drive for Priority Group A4 (essential and economic workers) of the National COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment Plan. — Dominic I. Dilao, UV Intern, KQD (FREEMAN)
